FAQs
Frequently asked questions (FAQs) and answers about this website and how to interpret and compare results.
What area is considered North Queensland?
North Queensland for the purposes of this website is the area of Queensland north of the Tropic of Capricorn (latitude 23 degrees 30 minutes south). This is just south of Rockhampton and the nearby town of Gracemere.
This area includes primarily the coastal population centres starting at Rockhampton and extending north to and including Cooktown. Coastal centres in this area are Rockhampton, Yeppoon, Mackay, Proserpine, Bowen, Townsville, Ingham, Innisfail, Cairns, Port Douglas and Cooktown. The larger inland towns of Mt Isa and Charters Towers also fall within this definition. However, Gladstone and Bundaberg are excluded as they are south of the Tropic of Capricorn.
Can I rely on just the premium amount to decide the insurer that best suits my needs?
No. You need to consider which policy best suits your needs as different products have different features and levels of cover. Focusing on premium only might mean that you could be missing out on cover or features that you might need given your particular circumstances.
Always contact the insurer that you're interested in for more information on policy features and coverage before making a decision to insure.
Are all insurers that offer home insurance in North Queensland compared on this site?
No. Not all insurers are compared on this website. For more information, see the list of insurers, insurance brands and products compared on this site. In addition, please note that insurers who offer their products exclusively through brokers are not compared on this site.
Are the comparison results quotes for my particular property, personal circumstances and relevant insurance history?
No. The comparison results have not taken into account your particular property, personal circumstances or relevant insurance history. They are only an indication designed to help make it easier for you to make further inquiries with one or more insurers you may be interested in.
The policy features and quotes information are not online quotes or offers of insurance for your particular property, personal circumstances or relevant insurance history. You should always contact any insurer(s) you are interested in for a personalised quote based on your particular property, personal circumstances and relevant insurance history before making any decision to purchase a home insurance policy.
How up to date is the information on this site?
The comparison of policy features will be updated regularly. Where a material change is detected in policy features for a particular insurer, the data will be updated to reflect the change. The update process may take up to 6 weeks.
The indicative premiums information for all insurers will be updated twice a year. Premium information for all insurers will be collected and updated between 1 January and 31 March in each year and again between 1 July and 30 September. The policy features and indicative premiums information provided is not 'real time' information.
Can the results on this site be different to what an insurer might tell me they would charge me?
Yes. It is likely that the results displayed on this site will be different from the quote that you obtain from a particular insurer. The comparisons in this site are based on specific risk profiles, excess and coverage levels that may not match your exact property, personal circumstances and relevant insurance history.
For more information on how risk affects premiums, see Factors that affect premiums.
See also assumptions for more information on the assumptions used on this site.
Do insurers base their pricing on the natural disaster risk information presented on this website?
The natural disaster risk information presented on this website are measures derived from an assessment by Finity Consulting Pty Limited of the insurance risk from cyclone, flood and storm for individual properties. This independent measure may differ significantly from the risk assessment used as a basis for the premium set by individual insurers.
Is the order in which the results are displayed an indication of whether one insurer better suits my needs than another insurer?
No. The comparison results are displayed alphabetically and therefore the order of the results should not be used as an indication of whether one insurer better suits your needs than another insurer.
Can I assume that the insurers on this website are recommended by ASIC over others?
No. Where this website refers to any insurer, insurance brand or product, that does not mean that ASIC endorses, recommends or gives any warranty or makes any representation in relation to that insurer, insurance brand or product. See disclaimers for more information.
Are the policy features compared a complete list of all policy features for any particular policy?
No. The features part of the comparison results is not a complete statement of the cover offered, exclusions, conditions and limits or any other features that apply under any particular policy. You should carefully read the relevant insurer's Product Disclosure Statement and all policy documentation for more details for the product you are interested in as well as contact the relevant insurer for a full list of policy features. See the list of insurers for links to the insurers' webpages where you can obtain a copy of relevant policy documents.
Does this site compare landlord, strata or commercial policies?
No. This site does not compare landlord policies, strata building policies or commercial policies. Some strata contents policies are compared.
Do Finity Consulting Pty Limited (Finity) or ASIC receive any commission, gifts or benefits for this website?
No. Neither Finity nor ASIC receives any commissions, other gifts or benefits from the insurers as a result of having their brands and products compared on this site.
